"BIPOC Creative Access- Artistic Intelligence" refers to a collaborative initiative, with events that facilitate art and cultural awareness through platforms, that supports and empowers Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) artists who are also Deaf, Disabled, or Neurodivergent. It centres on developing creative and artistic intelligence by integrating accessibility and multidisciplinary arts collaborations into the creative process itself, rather than treating it as an standalone practices or an afterthought. The goal is to foster meaningful inclusion and access for the BIPOC Creative Access AI peers in art, often through workshops, mentorship, orations, creating awareness and agency for these communities within the arts sector, as seen with our events presented by peak bodies like Arts Access Victoria, Multicultural Arts Victoria the Channel and at Arts Centre Melbourne City of Yarra for Alter State 2024 and City of Darebin FUSE festival held on Wurundjeri Country.
Key Aspects:
Focus on BIPOC Creatives:
The initiative specifically targets and provides a platform for BIPOC artists, including those who are also Deaf, Disabled, or Neurodivergent.
Integrated Access:
It promotes "creative access," which is about embedding access, multi disciplinary art into the creative work from the beginning, allowing it to become an integral part of the art itself.
Community & Collaboration:
Programs involve mentorship, workshops, and community building, bringing together artists and experts with lived experience to share knowledge and develop new practices.
Artistic Intelligence:
The focus is on developing "artistic intelligence" by exploring new ways to create accessible and inclusive work, often by drawing on lived experience and fostering collective trust.
Examples:
Events associated with this concept include workshops on embedding access, peer to peer facilitation and community-led artistic projects, such as those presented by the BIPOC Creative Access Collective Artistic Intelligence Symposium and Events.
